Kurt and Blaine stand among their fellow glee clubbers as they watch Rachel board the train. Her eyes are damp and the mood is balanceing between optimistic and somber. The train door closes and the hiss of the gears release. Kurt watches, water in his eyes, as Rachel holds her hand up to the window. Finn makes a choked noise and as the train starts to pull away he gives chase, long legs pushing him close, but impossibly slow. The train quickly outpaces the boy and Rachel speeds away, towards New York, towards her dreams.

Tears threaten to spill over Kurt’s eyes, his hand reaches blindly for Blaines. His stomach twists and he wants to be happy for his best friend, but it’s overshadowed in just the slightest by his jealously. Finally, his hand finds the warm comfort of Blaine’s palm. He squeezes, turning to look at his boyfriend. As he does, a tear tips over on to his cheek. Blaine sees this and smiles sadly.

“Oh, Kurt.” He says in a hushed voice. “Does this remind you of your dead dreams?”
